15 Misunderstood Food Orders That Will Make You Ugly Cry

Many people find satisfaction in food. And even more people find satisfaction when they’re not the ones doing the cooking. It’s because of this that a lot of people enjoy dining out. But sometimes, even at your favorite restaurant, you want to switch things up and order something different. Or, in other situations, you visit a place you’ve never gone to before to try something new. In some cases, such experiments turn out great and you’re even more satisfied with the food you ordered. But there are times when your request leads to a completely unexpected result. This result can be both disappointing and hilarious at the same time. If you’ve ever been in a similar situation, you know what we mean. Check out these 15 moments yourself and let us know if you’ve been subject to something similar.

Double Espresso, Please

Just like how we like to start a new day, we’ve decided to start our list with a cup of coffee, which suddenly turned out to be two cups of coffee… To be honest, in this case, the result of the beverage ordered is not that bad. Whoever ordered the double espresso got what they asked for. Literally. It was just unexpected to get their java in two separate cups. But this is now the dishwasher’s problem, as they have to wash two cups instead of one.

The more we look at this picture, the more hilarious we find it. Especially how the wait-staff decided to deliver their double espresso; one cup on top of the other. Hey, maybe that’s just how this cafe serves their hot drinks? Or maybe the waiter was new to the coffee game and seriously fudged up.

Two Cups, One Drink

Now that’s another fun way to serve a drink! The customer asked for an extra cup for the kids and they served the “extra cup” inside of the big cup. Is that a hint? Did the person at the drive-thru mean to do this as some kind of lesson? Maybe to not give kids soda? If so, they got the point! Well, kind of. Any sweet carbonated drink is bad for our health and it’s definitely not good to give it to our children. Plus, the sugar will keep them up for hours. But since the worker couldn’t say it out loud to the person in the drive-thru, they decided to serve the drink this way, in some kind of passive-aggressive manner. It’s mind-boggling to think that this is what went through the worker’s mind when asked for “an extra cup for the kids.” Like….why would the person in the car WANT another cup INSIDE of a larger cup? Stay in school, you guys.

Extra Mayo On Top And Bottom

Okay, this is just plain rude and dumb. But can we blame the fast food chain worker in this case? Looking at it from their point of view, we kind of can’t. Technically, the customer did ask for mayo on the top and on the bottom. They didn’t necessarily specify whether they wanted the mayo on the top of the bun or on the inside. But, on the other hand, it should have been common sense that the person in the drive-thru wanted their condiments on the INSIDE of their sandwich. What kind of savagery is this? I wonder if whoever ordered this sandwich complained, or if they just posted the image to the Internet. Hopefully it was a lesson learned by both the worker and the person ordering.

Chips With Cheese? Hmmm…

Okay, now this person ordered chips with cheese. But they got fries with a side of cheese. To be honest, I’d like to get the background story for this situation. All I can guess for now is that it has something to do with the confusion over British and American English. Because chips in American English mean the chips you snack on: thinly fried potatoes that are sealed in a bag and sold on shelves. British chips are what we North Americans call french fries. So it’s obvious that either the person who made the order was in Britain and forgot about the difference, or they just straight up thought that the person wanted chips (french fries) with a side of squared-cheese. Whatever actually happened, there’s nothing terrible about this situation, it’s just kind of silly. Whoever ordered this probably explained the confusion to their waiter and eventually got what they ordered. I bet those fries were delicious, though!

Oh, I Thought You Said Bay Leaves!

This person who ordered their coffee with Bailey’s just wanted to relax a little bit. There’s nothing smoother than hot coffee with a splash of alcoholic cream. Yum! But they didn’t necessarily get what they ordered… Talk about a MAJOR disappointment when you’re in some dire need for both alcohol and coffee.

After looking at this picture a little longer, I can’t help but wonder: was the waiter joking with the customer? Or did they actually think that they were doing the right thing? After all, these bay leaves were served so nicely — in a small cup next to the coffee. Did the waiter think that the customer wanted to put the leaves into their coffee to enrich the flavor? I kind of want to try this out now… Just to see if this turned out to be a worthy mistake.

A New Way To Serve Ice Cream

Are you kidding me? All this person wanted to snack on was a sweet ice cream treat from McDonald’s. Instead of eating the ice cream from a cone, they asked for it to be served in a cup instead (it probably makes it easier to eat for some messy eaters). But what they got instead, was a two-for-one kind of deal. They got their ice cream in cups alright, but the cones were still attached.

The way this ice cream was served is something I’ve never seen before. On one hand, it seems to be a sweet gesture. Maybe the worker thought they should be able to have their cake and eat it, too? But, on the other hand, I don’t think this is what the customer ever had in mind. I guess it could be worse, right?

Cheese Sticks Not Cheesecakes

This person ordered a pizza and eight cheese sticks. But they were clearly misheard and received their pizza with eight single slices of cheesecake! Well, it’s not that bad. I’m sure that these cheesecakes were very tasty. Just look at that cream cheese! Yummy! If I were in this group, I’d totally be down to have a slice or two. And the pizza looks very nice, too. So, honestly, I think that the person who made the order could forgive this pizza place. But the next time they order, I’m sure they’ll differentiate between cheesecake and sticks of cheese. “Here is what I want. Cheese. Sticks.” In the next case, there will be no misunderstanding. Well, hopefully not. So let’s consider these eight delicious pieces of cheesecake as a life lesson! However, my last question is: didn’t they question the price? There is no way pizza and EIGHT pieces of cheesecake is as cheap as pizza and cheese sticks.

Here’s Your Affogato?

This picture is the perfect example of one thing: if something you want isn’t on the menu, it’s better to not order it. And don’t ask the waiter to serve it to you if they don’t even know what it is. Most likely, what you get won’t meet your expectations.

In this situation, the person came to the restaurant and wanted to eat Affogato (vanilla ice cream topped on a cup of hot espresso). It’s a really tasty treat! But neither the waiter, nor the chef, at that restaurant knew how to make it (or what the hell it was). So they just judged by the name and thought that they had to use an avocado. You can see the result in the picture above that that is no where near Affogato. But, who knows – maybe the combination of avocado, ice cream, and espresso is a good one?

Fruit Salad… From IKEA?

This is literally what you get if you order a fruit salad in Marrakesh. A bowl with fresh fruits. The only difference is you need to peel and slice them by yourself. Of course, that’s not what you expect when you order a fruit salad. You expect them to be already sliced, mixed, and seasoned with some suitable, sweet sauce. But, on the other hand, that’s also a fun way to eat a salad. After all, you get to make it by yourself! You can slice your fruits in whatever way you want, or you can just eat them as they are. Just like IKEA, you get pieces of furniture and assemble it by yourself.

However, I still don’t think that most people would be glad to receive this when they ordered a fruit salad. Maybe it’s time for Marrakesh restaurants to think about changing there ways in the states?

Ran Out Of Pepperoni?

This person ordered a pepperoni pizza, but what they got was pizza with a single slice of pepperoni. Wow. This little guy in the middle of this pizza must be really lonely among all the cheese and tomato sauce! What sad sight.

To be honest, I’d be outraged if I got a pizza like this. When you order a pizza with pepperoni, you expect to see much more than one piece of pepperoni on it. Otherwise, you might as well order a Margarita (or something else to your taste) pie. So here is some small advice to pizza restaurants: if you run out of pepperoni, say it! Tell the customer that you can’t make that kind of pizza at the moment and ask the person to order something else. This is what people like to call good service. And this is also a way you can avoid disappointing and losing your customers!

Tomato Salad With Feta, Please!

This girl went to a restaurant and ordered a tomato salad with feta cheese, which can go one of two ways. Either a bunch of diced tomatoes mixed with feta and some olive oil. Or an actual leafy salad accompanied by tomatoes and feta cheese. I don’t think she was literally expecting a tomato stuffed with feta… I guess what she ordered kind of exceeded her expectations, because she got JUST what she ordered. Now that’s what I call a creative way to make a tomato salad with feta cheese! I especially like how they threw in some olives for good measure. They look like eye balls and it seems like this tomato is looking at us. At the end of the day, it’s actually quite creative and hilarious, isn’t it?

Extra Pickles You Say? Sure!

This person headed over to Subway and asked for some extra pickles on their sandwich. And boy, did they get some extra pickles or what! I can say two things that I’m sure of judging by this picture. First, Subway is really generous with its customers and doesn’t spare any extra stuffing for their sandwiches. Second, the person who got this food order won’t want to eat pickles ever again after this meal. That’s like, more pickles than I eat in a year.

Anyway, I’m wondering what the worker at Subway was thinking when they were creating this sandwich. Did this person get carried away by their thoughts and failed to notice the amount of pickles they had put on it? Or did the customer who ordered this sandwich look like the person who loved pickles? Again, so many questions, but no answers…

Only Ketchup On My Burger

Okay, this person obviously didn’t want any other condiments on their burger except for ketchup. So when they decided to order a burger at McDonald’s, they asked them to put only ketchup on there (of course, meaning that they didn’t want any other sauces, lettuce, or tomatoes). But the person working in McDonald’s understood them literally and followed the request with extreme accuracy. As a result, the client got a burger… only with ketchup. Nothing else. Only. Ketchup.

Wow, that’s a really screwed up burger. How could the McDonald’s worker think that the customer would want something like that? It’s not even a burger. It just a bun spread with ketchup. Ugh. Sometimes people just don’t understand even the simplest things. And I can imagine the disappointment of the person who got this burger. At least next time they’ll specify their order…

The Best Veggie Burger, Or What?

This is one customer who was pumped for their burger. Instead of asking for bread with their burger, they went the healthy route and asked for lettuce instead. That sounds simple enough. However, what they got was far from something ordinary. Instead of their burger being between two leafs of lettuce, the restaurant literally chopped a head of lettuce in half to use as the replacement bun… We’re going to say this was unexpected.

It’s rather disappointing to get this kid of burger, to be honest. Not only is it a waste of vegetables, but it’s not exactly what they ordered. However, things could be worse and it was obviously still edible. Worst case scenario, the person could always take the remaining lettuce home and make a salad for the next day!

Fruit Salad In China

Different cultures eat different things. I’m pretty sure this is known throughout the world. America is known for their burgers. Canada is known for their maple syrup or bacon. Germany is known for their schnitzel. It’s just how the dice is rolled. However, when this customer went to China, I think they were playing it safe by eating a fruit salad. The only problem was, it’s literally the furthest thing from the fruit salad that they had in mind. Chopped up fruit and mayonnaise isn’t exactly tempting to those of us in North America. This could be a popular trend in China or maybe the wait-staff just thought this was what they wanted. Either way, I hope the customer was respectful of their culture and did their best to at least try this meal. Or at least take it home so they didn’t come off as rude.
