Harry Potter is filled with many magical and amazing things such as characters, creatures, scenery, and food. Let’s talk about the latter, for a while, since we all need it and we all love it. One of the first memorable foods we were introduced to in the series is the birthday cake that Hagrid made for Harry (“Happee Birthdae Harry”). Later, we were all pretty amazed when we saw as Harry’s Chocolate Frog jumped from the box and onto the window. Then, in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we all wished we could drink Butterbeer or visit Honeydukes, the candy store filled with all sorts of interesting treats. Yes, we could go on for a while about all the foods and beverages found in the magical series. But, we’ll just give you this list of 15 mouthwatering recipes inspired by Harry Potter, instead.

Golden Snitch Cake Pops

The Golden Snitch was introduced to us in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as the most important thing in the game of Quidditch. You know what’s more gorgeous than a shiny, Golden Snitch? A sparkly and edible Golden Snitch. Seriously, how delicious and Instagram-worthy do these Golden Snitch Cake Pops look? To make them, you would need to bake a regular cake (this recipe uses a vanilla cake). Then, crumble up the cake, once it has cooled, and use frosting to roll it into balls. Once the cake balls have hardened a bit in the refrigerator, dip them into melted yellow candy, and coat them in gold sprinkles. You can make the wings of the Snitch by pouring melted white chocolate into a leaf mold or by using actual feathers.

Treacle Tart

Treacle Tart is referenced countless times in the Harry Potter series (especially during the Hogwarts feasts) and is known as Harry’s favorite dessert. It’s actually a real-life British dessert that you can easily make, too. First of all, though, you’re probably wondering what the heck treacle even is (unless you’re such an avid fan of the books that you researched every single foreign word in them already). Treacle is a type of sweet syrup derived from sugar cane (and believe us when we say that this dessert is very sweet). The crust is similar to any regular pie crust, but sweeter. The filling consists of golden syrup, eggs, a bit of lemon juice, ginger, heavy cream, and bread crumbs. You can find the recipe here.

Pumpkin Pasties

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Ron and Harry eat like kings while on the Hogwarts Express. One of the things that they enjoy is Pumpkin Pasties, a pastry pie filled with pumpkin (they’re shaped sort of like Jamaican Patties). There are several different ways to make these tasty treats including using a savory recipe (with cheese, garlic, and pepper) or a sweet, pumpkin-spiced recipe (with pumpkin pie seasoning and cinnamon). You can find the recipes for these two versions here. You’ll need pumpkin purée, pie dough, and butter regardless of the version you want to make. It takes just under an hour to make and is perfect for any Harry Potter party or just a regular autumn day when you’re craving something different. If you’re not a pumpkin fan, you can try Cornish Pasties—a Weasley favorite—instead.

Butterbeer

After reading or watching Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, just about everyone wanted to try that delicious-looking beverage that goes by the name of Butterbeer. If you’ve ever had Universal Orlando’s Butterbeer, you’ll know that there’s nothing else that’s so fizzy, sweet, and creamy all at the same time. But, you don’t need to go all the way to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park to try Butterbeer, you can make it for yourself right at home! There are so many variations of this beverage—hot, cold, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic. What most of the recipes have in common, though, is that they use butterscotch or actual butter, giving the drink its distinct taste. One of the best recipes out there uses brown sugar, butter, heavy cream, and cream soda, amongst other ingredients.

Sorting Hat Pita Bread

You gotta love the Sorting Hat; it’s just so interesting. It tells everyone its thoughts and your thoughts, it’s responsible for our favorite trio becoming friends, and for playing a crucial role in Harry’s battle against the Basilisk. You can incorporate the Sorting Hat into your next family meal or use it as an edible centerpiece for your next Harry Potter or Halloween party by making this Sorting Hat Pita Bread. To make it, you’ll need active dry yeast, sugar, warm water, whole wheat flour, salt, olive oil, and flour. Using whole wheat flour is essential for giving the hat its dark color. Making the dough look like the Sorting Hat doesn’t take much skill (after all, it’s just a wrinkled cone). You can serve the bread with a spinach and artichoke dip (or whatever your favorite dip is).

Cheese and Pretzel Broomsticks

Of course, broomsticks are an important part of Harry Potter (you know, since the series is about witches and wizards). We were first introduced to the advanced broomsticks of the wizarding world when Harry went shopping in Diagon Alley. Then, we saw them again when he received one to play Quidditch with. How cool are these Cheese and Pretzel Broomsticks? And they’re ridiculously easy to make and healthy, too! You only need three ingredients: string cheese (yes, bring on nostalgia), pretzel sticks, and chives for added detail. All you have to do is cut the string cheese into three pieces and then peel each of them to make them look like the end of broomsticks. Push a pretzel stick through the other end and tie a chive around the cheese. That’s it, you’re done! This is so simple that if you have kids, even they could help to make these cute snacks.

Cauldron Cakes

Don’t you just want to grab one of these Cauldron Cakes out of this screen and eat it? So much chocolate; it just looks irresistible. Cauldron Cakes are another one of the treats sold on the Hogwarts Express and one the most impressive-looking Harry Potter foods on this list. They’re actually a lot easier to make than they look! First, you’ll need to make chocolate cupcakes (it’s recommended that you use this Devil’s Food Cake recipe because it’s incredibly rich and delicious). Next, dip the cupcakes into some chocolatey-glaze-goodness and flip it over, placing it onto three chocolate chips (which act as the cauldron’s feet). Then, pipe some chocolate glaze around the top of the cauldron and add marshmallow filling in the center of it, garnishing the top with edible gold glitter. Finally, to make the handle of the cauldron, pipe melted chocolate onto wax paper and allow it to harden. The complete instructions can be found here.

Rock Cake

Okay, Rock Cake doesn’t seem that appetizing if we just base it off the ones that Hagrid makes in The Sorcerer’s Stone (which are literally as hard as a rock). But, when made the correct way, they’re quite tasty. So, what is a real Rock Cake, anyway? Well, it’s basically a small and round cookie-like treat with dried fruit (like raisins) in them. They’re a bit like scones, but they have little moisture in them, which gives them that crunchy, cookie-like exterior.

To make Rock Cakes, you’ll need baking soda, salt, butter, sugar, vanilla extract, dried fruit, an egg, milk, and coarse sugar. Simply whisk all of the ingredients (except coarse sugar) together and shape them into balls. Then, dip them into the coarse sugar and pop them into the oven. They only need to be baked for about 15 minutes.

Cockroach Clusters

Cockroach Clusters are one of the grossest sweets sold at Honeydukes (because they’re actually made of real cockroaches). In Harry Potter, Ron tried to trick Fred into eating some by telling him they were peanuts! Could you imagine? We’re shuddering just thinking about that. To make your own Cockroach Clusters at home (without the real cockroaches, of course), you’ll need some chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and something crunchy (you can use nuts or even chow mein, which might sound like a really weird combination but supposedly tastes good). To make it, melt the chocolate and peanut butter chips and stir in your crunchy ingredient (which is supposed to mimic the texture of a cockroach) and spoon clusters onto wax paper. Then, put your clusters in the refrigerator so that they can harden.

Honeydukes’ candies

Honeydukes is the equivalent to candy heaven in the wizarding world. There are so many treats that can be bought there—from Sherbet Lemon (Dumbledore’s favorite) to treacle fudge. But, we’d like to focus on the two of the hard candies offered at Honeydukes: acid pops and the famous Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. Acid Pops are super easy to make and a really fun treat. You simply take a lollipop, dip it into honey then dip it into Pop Rocks (the greatest candy of our childhood). To make Bertie Bott’s beans takes quite a bit of work. You’ll need a bunch of different flavours in addition to sugar, water, gelatin powder, corn flour, cream of tartar, fondant, cornflour, and coloring. Or, you could always just buy a bag of Jelly Beans from the dollar store, put them in a jar and label them as Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans.

Mrs. Weasley’s English Toffee

Mrs. Weasley is known as the cook in Harry Potter. She always makes unique and delicious dishes. One of the things that she made that was popular amongst her family (and Harry and Hermione) is her English Toffee, which she sent to the trio in The Goblet of Fire. To make this delectable snack, you’ll need raw almonds, butter, sugar, salt, vanilla, milk chocolate, and crushed pecans. The first step is to roast and chop your almonds into quarters. Then, stir together the sugar, vanilla, butter, and salt until dissolved. Next, place your almonds in a tray and pour the mixture on top of it. Once it has cooled, pour melted chocolate over it, as well. Finally, place the tray into the fridge to allow the toffee to harden and break it up into manageable pieces.

Mrs. Weasley’s Corned Beef Sandwiches

While we’re on the topic of Mrs. Weasley’s dishes, allow us to introduce you to another—Mrs. Weasley’s Corned Beef Sandwiches. Apparently, Ron isn’t a fan of this dish (as he mentions in The Sorcerer’s Stone), but what does Ron know? We think you should try making this anyway because Mrs. Weasley knows her stuff in the kitchen! You’ll need slices of bread, Dijon mustard, sliced corned beef, Fontina cheese, sweet onion, and butter. We’re almost certain that you can figure out how to make this sandwich from here. But, just in case, we’ll fill you in. First, spread the mustard on one slice of bread, add corned beef, and top it off with onions, cheese, and the other bread slice. Then, heat the butter in a pan and grill the sandwich until golden brown.

Kreacher’s French Onion Soup

Kreacher, the house elf, serves a French Onion Soup to Harry, Hermione, and Ron in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The ingredients for this dish include butter, onions, salt, black pepper, sugar, plain flour, beef stock, red wine, thyme, and a bay leaf. To make this savory soup, sauté the onions (using butter) and sprinkle salt and pepper over them. Add sugar and flour then stir in red wine (optional) and the beef stock. Finally, add thyme and a bay leaf and let the mixture come to a simmer. You can also serve this with grilled baguette slices (by adding butter and grated Parmesan cheese to a sliced baguette). The recipe can be found here. And don’t worry, if you’re a vegan, you can still enjoy a different version of this dish that substitutes beef stock for vegetable broth.

Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshire Pudding isn’t exclusive to the Harry Potter world; it’s a traditional English food, typically served with beef and gravy. Throughout their years at Hogwarts, the students are served Yorkshire Pudding for dinner. The dish is first mentioned in The Sorcerer’s Stone, when Harry first saw the Hogwarts dinner table, filled with all the foods he liked to eat. To see what all the fuss is about, you can make this the next time you have guests or want a hearty meal. The recipe is really simple (yay). It calls for flour, salt, eggs, butter, milk, and vegetable oil. Once you mix the ingredients according to the instructions, you just need to bake it for about 20 minutes until it puffs up around the edges.

Molly’s Meatballs

Yep, that’s right—another Molly Weasley recipe. We couldn’t resist this one. Every meat-eater likes spaghetti and meatballs, right? And Molly’s Meatballs are actually pretty healthy, having ingredients such as parsley and onion. To make Molly’s Meatballs, you’ll need ground beef, breadcrumbs, an egg, onion, garlic, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and vegetable oil. Basically, you just need to combine all the ingredients (except the oil), shaping it into balls. Then, heat the oil in a skillet and fry the meatballs until they’re brown (this takes about four minutes per side). You can serve these delicious meatballs with onion sauce, which is made with onion (obviously), vegetable oil, flour, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and a bay leaf. These meatballs make a great addition to any pasta dish or even just a side of veggies.
